Mario Badescu Skin Care Review

Mario Bedescu skin care is a pretty well known skin care line, most famously for their drying lotion, which is often featured in magazines. Mario Badescu has a plethora of products targeted at acne prone skin, and also caters to sensitive, combination, and normal skin. If you visit their website at www.mariobadescu.com and take their skincare evaluation, they will send a follow up e-mail offering free samples based on your individual skincare needs, which I excitedly accepted. They sent me the following:

Enzyme Cleansing Gel
Cucumber Cleansing Lotion
Drying Cream
Ceramide Herbal Eye Cream
Oil Free Moisturizer SPF 30
Flower & Tonic Mask
A picture of my cute little samples:

1.)  Enzyme Cleansing Gel: This gel is very smooth and has a pearly green appearance and pleasant smell. However, after cleansing, my skin was tight, irritated and red on my cheeks, and down right hurt. I used this twice a day for the duration of the sample, which lasted about 5 days. It did do a good job removing make-up and oil, but it also felt like I washed off a whole layer of skin too. This is my least favorite product and is much too harsh for my skin. Rating: 2/5
Full size is 8 oz. for $12.00
Enzyme Cleansing Gel
2.)  Cucumber Cleansing Lotion: This green “lotion” (it was a liquid) also smells very pleasant. It made my skin feel fresh and removed any impurities the cleanser missed. I also noticed that after application, my pores looked smaller. The only other product I’ve tried that I could compare this to is the Clinique Clarifying Lotion from the 3 step skincare system, and I actually prefer it over Clinique. It has a much more pleasant smell and makes a difference in pore size. Rating: 5/5
Full size is 8 oz. for $15.00
Cucumber Cleansing Lotion
3.)  Drying Cream: First off, this pasty stuffy has a horrible smell. I left it on pimples over night and didn’t notice any visible difference in size. It supposedly “camouflages” pimples when rubbed into the skin, but in reality leaves a chalky white spot over the pimple. However, I will use this when I travel because of the small size and the fact that it doesn’t make my face tight like my benzoyl peroxide acne cream. Rating: 3/5
Full size is .5 oz for $14.00
Drying Cream
4.)  Ceramide Herbal Eye Cream: This cream is ultra moisturizing, almost too much so because if not used very sparingly, it made my eyelids feel sticky and greasy. Worked very nicely on my under eye area though, as that area is often dry and flaky on me. I have dark circles and while this product is not meant to brighten them, it is essential that I use an eye cream specifically for them, so I would not repurchase. Rating: 4/5
Full size is 0.5 oz. for $18.00
Ceramide Herbal Eye Cream
5.)  Oil Free Moisturizer SPF 30: This is a very moisturizing lotion but it leaves skin looking shiny/greasy. It smells exactly like sunscreen. When applied before make-up, even when left to soak in for 20 minutes, it made the application tedious, as skin is greasy and difficult to work with, not smooth. I highly prefer my Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Gel to this, but I will use it as sunscreen when by the pool. Rating: 2/5
Full size is 2 oz. for $26.00 (way pricey!)
Oil Free Moisturizer (SPF-30)
6.)  Flower & Tonic Masque: This is my favorite product. It is a masque meant to be left on for 15-20 minutes 2-3 times per week. It reminds me a lot of the Queen Helene Mint Julep Mask. It leaves skin feeling refreshed, soothed, and the texture of skin is improved. Redness and irritation (mostly from the enzyme cleansing gel!) is diminished. A great product that delivers, would definitely purchase this. Rating: 5/5
Full size is 2 oz. for $18.00
Flower & Tonic Mask
Overall, it seemed very hit or miss with these products. Some I loved and some I didn’t care for. The two I loved are excellent products and I’m glad I had the opportunity to try them. Anyone can get free samples just by filling out the skin evaluation at mariobadescu.com and replying to the e-mail they will send.

Thanks so much for reading! Are you going to try the Mario Badescu skin care line? If not, what skin care products do you want to try out?

Did you make a weight loss resolution?

Hi everyone, I wanted to shared with you a great offer that I stumbled upon and that may help you with your weight loss goals. I, probably like many of you that are reading, made a weight loss goal as a New Year's Resolution. The best way for me to lose weight is the Atkins diet, low carb and high protein. You WILL lose weight FAST on this diet; Atkins claims as much as 15 pounds in 2 weeks! I myself went from about 125 pounds and a senior in highschool to about 100-102 currently (keep in mind I'm 5'0" so 100 pounds is in the "normal" range for my height.)While there is serious weight loss, there is also serious deadication required to achieve that weightloss. I love my carbs---pasta, bread, sugary foods...mm mmmm. The Atkins diet cuts most carbs out of your diet. In phase 1, the beginning phase of the diet, you need to stay under 20 net carbs a day. I am in phase 2, the "Ongoing Weight Loss" or OWL phase, which incorporates more carbs but still much less than my normal diet would include. This allows for 25 net carbs, which can be calculated by subtracting the amount of fiber in any food from the carb count.
The reason I am making this post is because right now, if you go to www.atkins.com/free and sign up, you can get kick started on the Atkins diet for FREE! You will recieve a Quick Start Guide, Recipe Book, Reabte for a recent Atkins book, and 3 free Atkins bars! The Atkins website will track your current weight, your BMI, your weight loss goals, suggest recipes, and offers a ton of interactive tools--journals, forums, daily meal tracker---that are all FREE. This is a great offer and I highly recommend giving the Atkins diet a try....what have you got to lose? (Except weight that is!)
I am going grocery shopping tomorrow to get some low carb foods to help me stay on track. Here's some items from my shopping list:
Eggs (high in protein, low carb, perfect for breakfast!)
Mozzarella cheese sticks (nearly no carbs, perfect snack)
Atkins Ready to Drink Shakes in chocolate (perfect breakfast or lunch, and they really do taste good.)

Deli meat
Tuna
Green beans
Frozen chicken breasts + marinade
Steak
Chili
Shrimp

Any kind of meat is great. Have a veggies along side it for the perfect Atkins meal. It's also easy to eat out at restaurants....order a steak, grilled chicken or shrimp, just dont get potatoes/french fries/rice as a side.

Thanks so much for reading! Has this inspired you to try the Atkins diet? What method are you using to achieve your wieght loss goal or maintain your current healthy weight?

Review: Aveda Phomollient

I have flat, thin, dry hair, so I am always on the lookout out for volumizing hair products. I have always been a fan of Aveda products, so I purchased Aveda Phomollient, a styling foam that is supposed to add shine and weightless volume to fine or medium hair. It comes packaged in a pump dispenser bottle with 6.7 ounces for about $16.00. If you are unfamiliar with the Avenda line of products, they are all botanically based high performance natural products. You can buy Aveda in salons or online.
The packaging:
As you can see, I have used about 3/4 of my bottle so far. It's a light brown liquid in the bottle that pumps out as a white foam. It's really lightweight and rubs into liquid in your hands. Personally, I apply two pumps to the roots of towel dried hair, and another two pumps on the rest of my hair. The directions suggest 3-5 pumps on wet OR dry hair.
Two pumps of Phomollient in my hand:
I then blow dry as usual. It does what it says, it ads shine and slight body and volume to my hair. It doesn't give hair that "crunchy" feeling either. While it's not the MOST volumizing product that I've ever tried, I really like it for those days that I just want to blow dry my hair and go. It's also good for your hair, with ingredients like honey, Burdock root extract, and marshmallow root extract. That's the best thing about Aveda, you feel good using their products because the ingredients are naturally derived. Overall, it's worth the $16.00 and I will definitely be purchasing this again when I run out! I give it a 9/10.

Thanks so much for reading! Have you tried this, or any other Aveda products? What would you recommend for flat, thin hair like mine?

Give Aveda Phomollient a try for yourself:

Romantic Gifts for HIM on Valentine's Day!

Wondering what to get your man this Valentine's Day? Men can be so hard to shop for! I was searching around the net trying to find the perfect gift for my fiancée and came across some great ideas to share with you all. Some of them I've even purchased for Cory for previous Valentine's or anniversaries. :)
Some tips before you get started:
1.) I like to give romantic, sentimental gifts on Valentine's Day. If you are more of a practical gift giver, or your guy isn't into the mushy gushy romantic stuff, I suggest giving him something according to his interests (music, sports paraphernalia, a DVD of a movie he likes, a video game, etc.).
2.) Set a budget. Don't go overboard if you've just started dating, and if you've been together a while, don't spend hundreds of dollars on a gift. A thoughtful gift doesn't have to be expensive.

The gifts!
1. A mix CD. This is really inexpensive and thoughtful. You can make of mix of his favorite songs or put some romantic music on it. And remember to decorate the CD with a Sharpie :) I always love to do that!
2.) Fix him dinner. This is much more personal than simply going out for dinner, and probably cheaper too. Fix him his favorite meal and watch a DVD afterwards for an intimate Valentine's Day in.
3.) Silky boxers. Men love silky boxers (at least mine does) and they have ones with cute designs around Valentine's Day. It's a little bit of a sexy gift too ;)
Or get personalized ones!

4.) A framed picture of you two. Buy a nice frame (you can even get nice, inexpensive ones from
dollar stores) or something unique. I made a picture cube (got the cube frame at Walmart) and Cory loves it.
5.) Photo gifts from Shutterfly.com. I am obsessed with Shutterfly, to put it lightly. I made Cory a photo book of our anniversary and it turned out so cute! It's something that he can hold onto for a long time, and if we ever have kids he can pull it off the book shelf and show it to them. It was around $30 dollars, including shipping, so they're a little more than some gifts but not too expensive. They take quite a bit of time to make, something that he'll appreciate.

Other photo gift ideas from Shutterfly:
Photo Mug (for the coffee drinker)
Photo Mugs
Photo box:
Keepsake Box
Photo mousepad (for the computer addict):

6.) Okay, so here comes the REALLY cheesy stuff :D "I'm nuts about you" keyring and bottle.
Isn't this cute?? It's a keychain that's made of nuts and bolts---the kind you use in construction---and a red heart shaped bottle filled with peanuts! He can wear the keychain and still look manly. Only you two will know what it means!

7.) The key to my heart. Show him that only he has the key to unlock your heart. I got this for Cory two Valentine's Days ago.
New Key to My Heart Gold Seal Box
8.) Love tokens. They have assorted sayings, such as "Good for one hug," Good for one massage," and "Good for one kiss" etc. Redeemable at any time ;)
Love Tokens and Pouch
9.) Frog Prince Charming.

This sterling silver frog wears a crown fit for a prince. Choose carefully: As soon as your Prince Charming sees the box with the words, "you are my prince," written on it, he'll know he's finally won you over.

Prince Charming

10.) Love fortune cookie. Yes, I got Cory one of these too! It's a silver fortune cookie in its own little takeout box. You personalize the fortune. I think it's too cute.

11.) Message in a bottle. These are expensive (most of them are about $100) but very cute. Personalize your own message inside. If you are willing to put in a lot of time, I think it would be so creative to make a Valetine's Day Treasure Hunt with instructions inside the bottle! And of course, a much, MUCH cheaper alternative is to go to a craft store and buy the bottle and pretty paper and make your own message in a bottle/treasure hunt.

Quick update...won't be able to post for a bit

Hi everyone, I won't be able to post for a few days. My computer got a virus from a pop up. I thought it was fixed but this is a nasty virus so I guess it's going to take a few days for my Dad to repair it---I hope I don't lose all of my pictures and word documents! :-(
Also, my fiancée's Papaw passed away on Sunday, so I have been at his house a lot, just being with his family. His death has hit them really hard. There will be a funeral, receiving of friends, and grave side service later this week, so I will be busy until the weekend. Just wanted to keep you all posted, have a wonderful week, and thanks so much for reading!

Cotton Candy Lips!

I have a Lorac lip gloss that makes my lips look like bright pink cotton candy :) I don't wear it out usually but I wear it a lot at home because it's just so fun! It's a Lorac Couture Shine Lip Gloss in Haute, available at loraccosmetics.com for $22.00. It's a thick, richly pigmented gloss that is described as a "bright pale pink"on their website...isn't that an oxymoron?? How can something be bright and pale? Haha anyways I would call it Cotton Candy Pink if it was up to me! Here are some pics of the lip gloss:
A swatch:
On the lips:
I had on a bright pink shirt today, and the color matched it pretty well!
See how cotton candy pink it is compared to my shirt? A fun, vibrant color that I'm too chicken to wear out haha.
Thanks for reading! What kind of look would you wear this color lip gloss with? Do you have any "fun" make up that you just wear at home?

Celebs that inspire me

These are the celebrities that I think are simply GORGEOUS.
Zooey Deschanel
I think Zooey's big blue eyes are what makes her so pretty to me. She always looks elegant and put together, and I like that she uses her eyes as a statement on their own; she rarely puts on heavy eyeliner/shadow but just looks naturally stunning.
Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen
They have such a unique look. I love their boho-chic style and the fact that they kinda disregard what's in fashion and do their own thing. I also looove the huge round sunglasses they are famous for!
Analeigh Tipton
Analeigh was the second runner up on cycle 11 of America's Top Model (a show that I watch religiously). Analeigh is so sweet and really soft-spoken but during her photo shoots she pulled out this sexiness that you would never imagine her having. To be so cute, the girl can model. She is my all time favorite model on ANTM so far and I think she's goooooorgeous.
Lauren Conrad
Lauren is my number one style icon. I love everything she wears and was so excited when I got her Style book for my birthday! I might do a review on it. Lauren always looks classy and polished, and her hair looks so effortlessly perfect. Plus she is stunningly beautiful!
I hope you enjoyed! What celebrities inspire you?
