Spring & Summer Fashion Trends 2011

I am so excited for spring! Stores are stocking spring clothing and I've noticed a few trends that seem to be everywhere. With any fashion trend, take it or leave it. Pick out the ones you like and ignore the rest--that's what I do anyways. The whole crop-top 80's thing...no, I will not be jumping on that bandwagon. More power to you if you can rock that. I pick trends that I like & I think will be flattering on my body type. Here's my top 7 favorite trends that I'm excited about  this spring!
7.) Lace, so girly and delicate. Perfect for spring. Black lace was popular this winter, try lighter pastel colors for spring.

6.) Sheer blouses. I personally would wear a tank top under these but I like the flirty femininity of the sheer, light fabric.

5.) Neutrals. Especially white.

4.) Stripes. I went to Forever 21 the other day and dang, the whole store looked striped.

3.) Floral prints. These have been in fashion for a few seasons now.

2.) 70's inspired fashion, especially bell bottoms. Also includes maxi dresses, chunky heels, clogs, and hot pants.

1.) Chunky wedges. Stemming from the 70's theme. Can be espadrilles or cork (or even wood!). I love them! Most are neutral colors---taupe, tan, brown, black.

As you can see, a lot of the styles overlap....white & lace, floral and lace, sheer tops & 70s inspired style, floral and 70s, wedges and 70s. I bought a couple of spring things at Target this week, when I have a photographer handy (a.k.a my fiancĂ©e) I'll haul them and put some outfits together from my own closet showing the way I would wear these styles. Again, I only wear the trends that I like and leave the rest, and wear them how I want. So if I pair 70s cork wedges with a lace dress, don't kill me okay? ;-) Look for that post early next week!

Thank you so much for reading! What spring trends are you excited about the most? Any of these that you LOVE or HATE?

Valentine's Day Goodies for someone special :)

I stole this idea from Meganheartsmakeup on YouTube, I'll link her video so you can see a step by step visual of how to make these pretty rose cupcakes!
Ingredients needed:
Cupcake mix (eggs, oil, and water per directions)
Icing--any kind, I used vanilla. Strawberry would be pretty too!
Baking cups
Nonstick spray (like PAM)
A muffin/cupcake tin
Fruit roll ups in red and green at least, yellow if you want yellow roses too
Optional-Sprinkles
Optional-Red jelly hearts

Mix the cupcake mix according to the directions. Fill baking cups about 2/3 full---not too full or they'll expand too much while cooking!
To make the roses, you need fruit roll ups or fruit by the foot. Cut a one inch strip and roll it up to make the center. Then cut out petal shapes and adhere to the rolled center. Watch Megan's video to get a more detailed explanation!

The final product will look like this!
Since the roses are tedious and time consuming, I alternated them with cherry jelly hearts.

You can spread the frosting on with a knife, or put it in a sandwich bag, cut a small hole in the corner, and pipe the icing on. It looks so pretty!

I hope my sweetheart enjoys them!
I also made cookies. No secret here though, just buy Pilsbury pre-made sugar cookies and pop them in the oven. The heart tray was only $1.50 at Wal-mart! To make the cookie sandwiches (the ones at the top of the tray), put icing between two sugar cookies and adhere. Roll the sides in sprinkles. Super easy and cute!

Thanks for reading.

Outfit of the Day...on YouTube

I recorded an outfit of the day on my webcam. It pretty much turned out to be a fail video but I posted it on Youtube anyways. So check it out and give me suggestions for filming.

January 2011 Favorites!

I know it's been a week since I posted and is definitely late for January faves, but school is in full swing and my life has been very busy. I have 17 credit hours and am tutoring Statistics 3 hours a week...whew. I have:
-Sociology of Family & Marriage
-Theories of Personality
-Senior Thesis Seminar!
-Financial Accounting
-Honors Tutorial Practicum
-Cognitive Psychology
I really do love my major though. Psychology is so interesting to me and I'm at the point where I get to take lots of psych classes. Anyways, without further ado, January favorites!

1. Clinique Perfectly Real Makeup in Shade 08 (N)

I've been grabbing for this foundation the most lately. It's sheer coverage and leaves my skin looking fresh. This finish is dewy on my skin (I apply with a damp sponge). It does have tiny reflective particles in it, but it doesn't make your face look like a disco ball. You can only see the glitter in direct sunlight.
2. Original Carmex. My lips have been so dry this month and Carmex feels so soothing. It has Camphor, Menthol, and Phenol in to sooth and heal cracked lips. I prefer the sqeeze tube as it's more sanitary than the original pot form.

3. Sephora Brand Gloss Ultra-Brilliance in #14. This is a milky pink lip gloss similar to NARS Turkish Delight. I love the sheer light pink color it gives to my lips. Good lasting power as well.

4. Laura Mercier Undercover Pot in 2. I have been obsessed with this stuff! The creamy peach color is great for my under eye circles, while the yellow side is good for covering pimples. It seems hard and tacky but thats how it's supposed to be....that texture allows it to adhere to pimples and make the disappear. The yellow setting power keeps the concealer in place and from creasing. Love it!

5. Smashbox Lipgloss in Afterglow. This is a deluxe trial size I've been using towards completing project mini pan! It's creamy and moisturizing and leaves a sheer coral glow with subtle shimmer. I love the brush applicator as opposed to the usual doe foot applicator. I will be sad when this little baby is used up.

6. Laura Mercier Invisible Loose Setting Powder in Universal. Another sample size I'm using up. This stuff is really similar to MUFE HD setting powder--reduces visible pore size and mattifies beautifully.

7. Kate Spade Twirl. Yet another sample that I'm using up that I love. Notes: Mandarin, Bergamot, Baies Rose, Pink Watermelon, White Peach, Red Currant, Blackberry, Star Jasmine, Magnolia, Orange Blossom, Tiare Flower, Sun-Kissed Skin Accord, French Macaron, Luminous Musk, Amber.
Style: Sparkling. Joyful. Fruity-Floral. Smells sophistacated and amazing :)

Full size bottle:

8. Bourjois Contour Clubbing Waterproof Eyeliner in 42 gris tecktonik. A lovely graphite shade that looks smoldering when smudged on the lower lash line. I adore this.

9. Clinique Eyeshadow Quad with Rum Spice, Champange, Chocolate Chip, and Lucky Penny. I create an every day smoky eye with this palette. Rum Spice is my favorite, a bronzy cinnamon color that makes the green in my eyes stand out.

10. Last but not leatst, MAC's sable. I swipe this all over the lid when I'm in a rush and it's gorgeous. It's a frost finish so it has a lovely sheen to it,
