Huge Trend: Feather Earrings!

A huge trend this spring is feather earrings, and I happen to looooove them! They have a great selection of them at forever21.com that are around 3-7 dollars, very affordable. The trend is both actual soft feathers and enamel/engraved feathers. I've seen a lot of peacock ones and dangly ones.

Large Drop Feather Earrings, $4.80, in turquoise/brown

Drop Medallion Feather Earring, $3.80, in Black & Gold
Everyday Feather Earrings, $2.80, in Turquoise/Silver
I own two pairs of feather earrings. The first pair I got at Rue 21 on clearance for $3.00. They are enamel peacock earrings:

And the other pair I got at Kohl's as part of a trio:
Mudd Silver-Tone Peace Sign, Feather and Disc Drop Earring Set
I wore these this weekend to get some drinks for a friend's 21st birthday. They were super cute!

Me and the birthday girl!

Okay, you can tell I'm feeling that margarita but this picture really shows off the earrings!

Do you like the feather earring trend?

OOTN---Going to see Trans-Siberian Orchestra!

My mom's Easter present to me this year was tickets to see Trans-Siberian Orchesta! I love TSO. If you've never heard of them, they take classical music and put their own rock twist on it...it's sooo awesome. They are so unbelievably talented, I was mesmerized the whole show. Plus they use lasers and smoke and fire and all kinda of crazy effects during the performance. It's an overall spectacular show.

My outfit:
Dress: $11.99 at ROSS! So cheap!
Belt: Free at a rummage sale
Shoes: Forever 21, $25.80
I featured them in a haul last month.
That means that the total cost of my outfit was $37.79---not bad!

Here's a video I recorded at the concert, to give you a taste of what it's like:

Thanks so much for reading! Do you like my cheap outfit? What did you do for Easter?

Cute Easter Basket Cupcakes!

I have been loving making cupcakes lately, and here's my version of a recipe I found on the Disney Family Fun site.
You will need:
-Cake Mix (any flavor you want)
-White Icing
-Mini Robin Eggs
-Bag of Sweetened Flake Coconut
-Twizzlers
-Bag of Assorted Easter Chocolates
-Tooth picks

The kind of candy eggs I used---Whopper's Mini Robin Eggs. The regular size are too big for cupcakes.

The candy I used: Palmers Peter's Sweet Shop Assorted Easter Chocolates

I was specifically looking for little bunnies, which is why I bought Palmer's...they had these adorable fudge bunnies!

I got chocolate Twizzlers because I thought the brown would look better as the basket handle, and I don't like the other flavors, but you can get the black or red ones, whichever you prefer.

You will also need some green food coloring

Optional--green decorative crystals
Optional---Ribbon and cellophane

DIRECTIONS:
Prepare the cake mix according to the directions. Bake and allow to cool for about 20-25 minutes.
Lightly ice the cupcakes
Add a few drops of the green food coloring to the coconut flakes and mix well.
Start by adding a few drops and slowly add to it until it reaches and pretty bright green.
Put a spoonful atop a cupcake and gently press into the icing.

Now the fun part!
Unwrap a fudge bunny and push a tooth pick in the bottom, and stick it into the cupcake. Put a few eggs in front of him.
Take a Twizzler (no need to cut them, they are conveniently the perfect length!) and push a tooth pick into each end. Secure into opposite sided of the cupcake to look like a basket handle.
The finished product:
 I made quite a few!
I used the green crystals on a few of the cupcakes because I do not like coconut and I wanted to be able to eat one!

To make them cute, I wrapped them in cellophane and tied with a ribbon. I took these to my family Easter dinner (we had it early this year).

I also individually wrapped some for friends :)

I hope you enjoyed this! Do you have any cute cupcake suggestions?

Have a wonderful Easter! :)

Breakthrough run for Autism 5K!

What was I doing around 6:15 on this gloomy, rainy, cold Saturday morning? I was up and getting ready to run my second ever 5K race! My friend Kelsey, who was Covenant Health's Big Winner of Knoxville, has lost a phenomenal amount of weight and asked her friends to join her in a birthday 5K! What a great idea! You can read about her weight loss journey here: The Race is On!
[winner.jpg]

My friend Stephanie and I have been running in the mornings for about 2 weeks to prepare, but since this was her first and my second, we weren't expecting to do well, just to finish. This morning was coooold and rainy, but luckily when 8 o'clock rolled around, the rain had stopped. The start line was at the Pinnacle in Turkey Creek, and we looped through some super nice neighborhoods behind it. Our goal time was 45:00, 15 minutes a mile, as we have to stop and walk a lot, but we finished at 41 min and some change! We were stoked. May not sound fast to you, but for us, that was quite an accomplishment. Stephanie thought it was going to take us 2 hours!! Our next race, our goal is 38:00, shaving a minute off per mile.

Running is weird for me....it sucks during, it hurts, I get cramps, I want to quit....but it's awesome! I can't explain it. I was so proud of Steph and I for doing it. As soon as it was over, we both couldn't wait to do another one! It's addicting.

Here's some pics from the race and a little Vlog I filmed on the way there:
So tired! 7 am ride to the race site
Steph modeling the sweet T-shirt we got!

Steph's grandma came to watch Vinessa! She was great, I don't know what we would have done without her!
Ready to run!

It was about go-time!
We ran into birthday princess Kelsey!
Stephanie's adorable daughter Vinessa in her daddy's sunglasses :)

Our on-the-way to the race Vlog:

Do you run 5ks? (Or 8ks or 10ks or whatever ks??) Let me know! I would love to hear any tips you have for us novice runners!
